PRIVACY POLICY

First Mate — Operated by SaltCrest Ventures LLC — Effective date: June 18, 2026

WHO WE ARE

First Mate is a Gulf of Mexico offshore fishing intelligence product operated by SaltCrest Ventures LLC, an Alabama limited liability company. We provide satellite-derived ocean conditions and interactive map data to help offshore captains find fish. Contact: captain@firstmate.fish

WHAT WE COLLECT

Account information: When you create an account we collect your name and email address via Google Sign-In. We do not store your Google password.

Subscription information: We record whether your account has an active subscription. Payment is processed through our website at firstmate.fish. We do not store credit card numbers or payment details.

Home port: If you set a home port we store your selected departure port to calculate distances and bearings on the map. This is a named port you select, not a GPS coordinate.

Saved waypoints: If you save a waypoint we store the exact coordinates of that mark, plus any name and note you add to it. Unlike a home port these are real GPS coordinates, and they are the marks you chose to keep. We store them so they are on your map on every device you sign in from. We do not sell them, share them, or use them to work out where you fish. They are deleted outright when you delete your account.

Map location (local only): If you grant location permission, First Mate uses your device GPS to show your position on the map, calculate distance and bearing to fishing spots and your home port, and center the map on your current position. This location data is used locally on your device only. We do not transmit or store your real-time GPS position.

Precision Intel location samples (optional, opt-in only): If you enable Precision Intel, First Mate periodically samples your approximate location while the app is open and foregrounded. These samples are used to understand where you fish so we can send you personalized condition alerts when new ocean data publishes for your area. What we collect in each sample: approximate coordinates rounded to the nearest mile (approximately 1.6km), accuracy in meters, timestamp, active map layers at the time of the sample, distance from shore. What we do not collect: your exact GPS position, continuous location tracks, location when the app is closed or backgrounded. Precision Intel samples are stored securely and associated with your account. You can disable Precision Intel at any time in app Settings and request deletion of all stored location samples by emailing captain@firstmate.fish.

Device push token: First Mate does not currently send push notifications, and the app does not register for them, so we do not collect a device push token. Alerts reach you by email. If we add push notifications we will update this policy and ask for your permission first.

Usage data: We may collect anonymous aggregated usage data such as which map layers are viewed most often. This data cannot be used to identify you individually.

WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT

We do not collect precise continuous location tracks. We do not collect location when the app is closed or backgrounded. We do not collect location without explicit opt-in consent beyond what is needed to display your position on the map. We do not collect credit card or payment information. We do not collect data from children under 13.

HOW WE USE YOUR DATA

To authenticate you and maintain your subscription. To show your position on the map (local only, not stored). To calculate distances and bearings from your home port. To send Precision Intel alerts when conditions update at your fishing area (if opted in). To send email alerts when new ocean data layers are published (if opted in). To improve the product through anonymous aggregate analytics.

PRECISION INTEL — HOW IT WORKS

When you enable Precision Intel, First Mate learns where you use the app over time. We use your home port and location sample patterns to infer your fishing area — for example whether you typically run out of Orange Beach, Pensacola, or Venice Louisiana, and how far offshore you go. When new satellite or model data publishes for your area — updated SST, fresh chlorophyll pass, current changes — we send you an email alert so you know conditions have changed at the spots that matter to you. You are in control: enable or disable Precision Intel at any time in Settings, request deletion of all your location samples at any time, Precision Intel alerts are separate from general data notifications and you can enable one without the other.

DATA SHARING

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except service providers who help us operate the product (cloud hosting, database) bound by confidentiality agreements, and legal requirements if required by law or to protect our rights. Precision Intel location data is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for any purpose other than delivering personalized condition alerts to you.

DATA RETENTION

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Precision Intel location samples older than 12 months are automatically deleted. Saved waypoints are kept until you delete the mark or delete your account. You may delete your account from the account screen, or request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing captain@firstmate.fish. Deleting your account destroys your saved waypoints, location samples, trip and catch submissions, sign-in identity, and the email address on your account and on any mail we have sent or queued to you. We will delete your data within 30 days of a verified request.

Two narrow exceptions, so that "all associated data" means something you can rely on. We keep billing and payment records where financial and tax law requires us to, and if you unsubscribed from email we keep the fact that your address is unsubscribed. That suppression record exists only so a deleted account is not emailed again; it is never used to contact you, and it holds nothing beyond the address and the opt-out itself. Everything else is deleted or stripped of anything identifying you.

EMAIL ALERTS

Alerts are optional and arrive by email. First Mate does not currently send push notifications. You can disable email alerts at any time in app Settings or by clicking unsubscribe in any alert email. We send alerts only for new ocean data availability (if opted in) and Precision Intel condition updates for your fishing area (if Precision Intel is enabled). We do not send marketing or promotional emails through the alert system.

SECURITY

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure credential storage, and access controls on our backend systems. Precision Intel location samples are stored with the same security controls as your account data.

YOUR RIGHTS

You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion of your account and all associated data including saved waypoints and Precision Intel location samples, delete any saved waypoint at any time from the map, disable Precision Intel at any time in app Settings, and opt out of email alerts at any time in app Settings or via unsubscribe link. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of First Mate after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
